Decompression Therapy

Decompression Therapy is the process of stretching the spine using a machine that pulls against the back at a rate slow enough that it prevents the back muscles from spasming.   This decompresses and takes pressure off of the back and relieves it of pain from disc issues. Treatment usually lasts about 4-8 weeks and then the patient should not have to have the treatment again.

Reasons for Decompression Therapy

  • Herniated discs
  • Bulging discs
  • Relieving back pain
  • Relieving leg pain
  • Sciatica
  • Degenerative disk disease
  • Worn spinal joints (called posterior facet syndrome)
  • Injured or diseased spinal nerve roots
  • Pinched Nerve

Why it is Beneficial

The goal of decompression theory is to relieve pain by stretching the back in a painless process. It is beneficial because of it a nonsurgical procedure that helps heal the many back issues listed above. Being nonsurgical is a huge benefit to patients because the process of healing through surgery is more expensive, painful, and debilitating. Decompression therapy stretches your back in a way that prevents the disc from misaligning and repositioning themselves again. It is also beneficial because once you finish your treatment sessions, your back will be healed and not require further treatment.
